Have you ever wanted to build your own game? Or maybe you’re a computing student keen to apply your Python skills creatively. Then this workshop is for you!

In this fun and practical session, you’ll learn how to develop simple games using Python and run them on Android devices. Whether you’re new to programming or have some Python experience, this workshop will walk you through the essentials of game development—from setting up your environment and designing basic gameplay mechanics to testing your creations on mobile.

We’ll guide you through writing your first playable game using Python frameworks, with the opportunity to deploy it to an Android device. By the end of the session, you’ll have a working mini-game, an understanding of how Python can be used beyond the console, and the confidence to explore game development further.

There will also be time for Q&A and personalised support—so whether you’re a complete novice or a seasoned coder looking to try something new, this is your chance to get hands-on.

For the best experience, please bring a laptop and, if possible, an Android device. All are welcome, and enthusiasm is the only prerequisite!

For the best experience, please bring a laptop (or if that is not possible, an Android tablet or phone can be used also).

All are welcome, including complete novices and experienced programmers who want to pick up a new language, or brush up their skills, or kindly offer support to novices.

He received a B.Sc. in Computer Science, specialising in Artificial Intelligence, in 2016 and is now studying for a PhD researching unsupervised learning. He strives to create robust methods for recognising groups in data by creating novel clustering algorithms that apply weights to data rows.

Before joining the University in 2020 as a full-time Lecturer, Paul worked on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project as a Data Mining and Machine Learning Project Manager. In this talk Paul shares his enthusiasm and knowledge of programming.
