BCS Hertfordshire Student Chapters are vibrant, student-led communities established within universities and colleges offering higher education. They are part of a wider network of talented and passionate students across the UK and internationally who are actively shaping the future of IT and digital technologies.

What Are Student Chapters?

Student Chapters operate similarly to computing societies, providing a platform for like-minded students across all IT-related disciplines to collaborate, learn, and grow together. These chapters:

  • Organise events such as workshops, debates, hackathons, and guest talks
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing
  • Connect students with industry professionals and BCS members
  • Offer valuable leadership and networking opportunities

Student Chapters in Hertfordshire

BCS Student Chapters are vibrant, student-led communities based in universities and colleges offering higher education. They are part of a wider BCS network of passionate students across the UK and internationally, designed to help students engage with the tech community, build skills, and develop professional networks.

In Hertfordshire, our Student Chapters are run by students, for students, and are maintained by their respective educational institutions. Each chapter is led by a student committee, typically including a Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, with optional roles such as Events, Outreach, or Media Officers.

Chapters aim to:

  • Organise engaging and academically supportive events like guest lectures, hackathons, and workshops
  • Build connections with industry professionals and BCS members
  • Support student development through networking and leadership opportunities
  • Encourage committee members and participants to take up BCS student membership

To support these efforts, each chapter is assisted by the Student Chapter Liaison Officer (CLO). The CLO acts as the primary link between chapters, the regional branch, and BCS HQ, offering guidance on setting up a chapter, conducting elections, planning events, and accessing BCS resources.

Role of the Chapter Liaison Officer

Our Student Chapter Liaison Officer acts as a bridge between BCS HQ, the Hertfordshire Branch, and the local student chapters. They support chapters by offering:

  • Guidance on setting up and running a chapter
  • Help with event planning and promotional activities
  • Access to BCS resources and networking opportunities
  • Direct communication on behalf of BCS HQ for administrative support
