Sustainable Future Aviation – Innovation & AI

Sustainable development is a key driver for change. This talk will look at the key challenges in aviation and look at how various initiatives are helping to meet sustainable development goals. The talk will identify key areas of growth, and role computing and in particular AI will play. The talk will also identify if AI driven software could be certified for use in safety critical systems. Finally, an overview will be presented on the concerns arising from the digital Transformation.
Speaker : Rashid Ali

Rashid Ali has many years of Industrial and academic teaching experience. Has worked as a consultant for many blue-collar companies in automation and process control. He employs Project/Problem based learning (PBL) in delivering Aerospace Curriculum. Over the last 20 years Rashid Ali has built up research interests in the area of Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Aircraft Design. Using PBL approach, under his supervision undergraduates and Postgraduates undertake full UAS design cycle that employs standard conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design reviews. The activity undertaken in one complete academic year results in the design, prototyping and test flying of many novel UAS. He is a chartered Engineer (CEng) , a charted IT Professional (CITP), Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS), Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS) and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He is also the chair of the newly formed Cybersecurity, Computing and Communications specialist group , member of the GA specialist group, and member of the accreditation committee of the RAeS. He is a Fellowship accessor for the BCS, and the Member of the UAS challenge Steering committee of the IMechE
