Despite vast numbers of standards, methodologies and tools, risk assessment remains a black art. Using these tools, convincing results are often obtained without clear understanding of their basis in first principles. Sadly, evidence shows that a high proportion of such results, although convincing, are wrong. The speaker will examine some of the most popular approaches to risk assessment and identify the reasons they fail to deliver as assumed.
