Peter Alsop, Principal Pre-Sales Consultant, Oracle

Big Data – it’s a hot topic. But what is it really about? What’s the value? We make decisions based on information. Information is data that reduces uncertainty. Most of our information has been about things which are certain: costs, prices, names, addresses etc. Now we want to make predictions about an uncertain future, but how do we do this? In this talk Peter will start from the value of statistics and then show how Big Data helps us achieve better results. He will then talk about the technology of Big Data and products on the market.

Peter is Principal Pre-Sales Consultant at Oracle working with Financial Services and Public Sector customers. Prior to this he worked at Sun Microsystems in a number of pre-sales and services roles and at Xerox where he worked in general IT management and as a software developer on copier user interface and real-time control.
