A PSS is a “System of products, services, supporting networks and infrastructure that is designed to be: competitive, satisfy customer needs and have a lower environmental impact than traditional business models”. PSS represents an alternative business model which can be based on value in use rather than ownership. Policy makers and businesses increasingly will gain interest in this new business model because of its lower environmental impact. For the ICT sector this represents an immense opportunity because of the need of the model to be operated by a network of suppliers that need to communicate in real time for the operation and billing of the PSS as well as managing and tracking the assets.
